Join us for an engaging look at the dramatic early days of the American Revolution. Historian Alexander Cain will guide us through the tense buildup to the Siege of Boston, the choices that pushed both sides toward the clash on Breed’s Hill, and the fierce British assaults that met unexpectedly strong colonial resistance.

This presentation will examine historian Alexander Cain's analysis of the strategic context of the Siege of Boston, the critical decisions leading up to the confrontation on Breed's Hill, and the intense, three-pronged British assaults that encountered determined colonial resistance. The program examines the pivotal contributions of Rockingham County soldiers, who provided reinforcements, supplies, and leadership that strengthened American positions. Key events include the destruction of Charlestown, the defense by New Hampshire troops along the rail fence, and the sacrifices of individuals such as Moses Trussell, a former Plaistow resident serving with Colonel John Stark. Although the battle resulted in a tactical defeat for the Americans, it is widely regarded as a crucial turning point in the early stages of the Revolution, significantly shaping perceptions of colonial military capabilities.

Historian Alexander Cain has published multiple research articles that have shed new light on the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Siege of Boston, and the loyalist refugee experience during the American Revolution. Alex has also published two books and is the author of the blog and podcast “Historical Nerdery.” He is currently working on his third book, "For God's Sake, Fire! The Massachusetts Militia System on the Eve of Lexington and Concord." He resides in Massachusetts with his wife, Paula. They have two adult children, John and Abigail.
